Abstract
Thermal analysis of several compositions in Al,O.-H.PO., Al.OaH3P04- Cr03, AI(OH).-H3P04 and AI(OH),-Cr03-HaPO. systems was carried out for the purpose of ascertaining the trend of the reactions on heat treatment. Cr03 in aluminium phosphate bonds reduces moisture sensitiveness of the-product. Cr03 was incorporated wth H3P04 to the extent up to 30%. The different experiments were carried out up to 1000°C. Thermogravimetric curves indicated that the course of dehydration of Al.Oa-HaPO. was prolonged in the presence of Cr03. An interesting feature of the DTA curves of AI(OH)3-H3P04 and AI(OH).-H3PO.-Cr0a was the absence of the endothermic peak at 120°C in the presence of CrO •. The various peaks and rate loss for the above systems were discussed and probable mechanisms suggested.
