Abstract
Felspar is the seaond most imp01·tant 1·aw mate1·ial for the pottery industry. It is also being used in the glass industry on an inareasing seale. In spite of the inareasing use of nepheline syenite, the use of felspar in glass industry in Ameriaa ine1·eased to tlwee times of what it was in the year 1935, in a pe1·iod of ten years. It is neaessary to find out the tot.1l quantity of first gmde felspar available in India and alwllc ont a progr,wwu~ for its aonswnption in aeramia industry with due 1'egard to the fnture 1·equirements. Ameriea has exhansted all Ju;r stoeTc of good qn,1lity felspa?' in spite of the use of lttrge qnantities of nepheline syenite. Lest we should also ltav,; to ftwe the same cliffiaulty, let us as a first step, stop the wagtage of felspar mineral wherever it is oeeu1·ring. In the mu:a belt of Bihar, during mia,l mining, huge amonnt of felspar i~ being thrown away daily as mines 1'ef1tse. This fels pa1· is mostly first grade, high potash ancllow iron bearing mineral and as suah is very suitable .f 01· a,:ramie zmrposes. Reeovery of thi~ felxpar by froth flotation process has been SU[Jgested in the interest of ee?·amia aoneerns as well as tlte owne?'S of miaa mines. Analysis figures for several fels par samples f1·om mica mining a~·eas a1·e given and compared with tlte an11lysis datl! for some ji?·st grade Ame1·ican felspars.
