Abstract
India possesses huge deposits of cot·undum of very high purity in Salem, Mysot·e, Rewa and Assam. The countt·y's production is about f!iJO tons annually. An abtYtsive wheel consists r>f sl1arp gt·aded grains of ha,·d abt·1~sive material, united at tl!eit· point of contact by a snitaMe bond and sl!aped. Different bodies hat'e been compounded with Mysore and Rewa cot'ttndums and a variety of bonds have been employed for tlwt pw·pose. The at·ticles are shaped by pt·essing. They at·e fired at 13~0°0 wl1en the bond sinters and forms a strong body with the abrasive grains. The fired wheel a are trued to shape.
