| Different types of rPfractories used in !Jlass fm·naces
are considered. lJfullite (8Al/)3 . ft SiO.:) is the stablest
of all fo1'11!8 unde1· conditions of glass nulling. .Alumina
and silica in thi.~ vn·y ]11'0Jl07'tion of 3: 2 (eli in mullite)
cannot, lwweue1·, be always f• asi1.le, due to the possibility of
inte1·action bl'tween the 1'Pfracto•·y llnll the glass mdt l11'f01'e the
mullite f'omplcx is formal. 'l'ltu use of different mixtures
of clays, bttuxitr, lcyanite and .~illimanite 1tre considered.
The impo1·tance of pt·c-tr((ttmmt, prope1· crushing, mixing
with grog, pugging, souring and h,·llt trwtnu·nt an• di~cn.~srd.
These are as important as the clwice of the ]i1'0po· r'jractory
material. Hand-cnuhing 11nd natn7'al drying ovtr a longer
pe1·iod are conside1·ed preferable to quicker mechanical means. |
