Abstract
Attempts were made to develop impervious ceramic cores for use in the preparation of deposited graphite resistors using indigenous raw materials. Body compositions were adjusted to suit the sintering conditions (less than 1300°C) for the production of impervious cores. Pyrolytic graphite was deposited on these cores in vacuum at a temperature of about 900°C. Grooves were cut on these samples to give the desired electrical resistance. After fixing end caps for electrical connections, the samples were evaluated for behaviour in the high voltage and noise tests. Special attention was given to a study of the relation between the surface finish of the cores and the electrical properties of the resistors, with a view to arrive at suitable conditions for the production of the resistors.
