Abstract
The magnesites from different sources in! India indicate a wide variation in their chemica,z composition namely Si02 from 0.6 to 8.0, MgO 36.4 to 46.7, CaO 0.1 to 9.7 and Fe20 3 0.2 to 4.4 per cents. Si02 is derived essentially from quartz in case of magnesites from Salem, Mysore and Rajasthan, and from talc in the Almora magnesites. CaO is constituted usually from dolomite calculated to be present in proportion varying from about 0.5 to 30.8 per cent. The determination of magnetic susceptibility on powder-compacts of natural magnesite as per Guoy method suggests the Almora magnesites to be simi/c.tr to breunnerite of Austria containing siderite in variable proportion in solid solution in magnesite.
