Abstract
Polycrystalline yttrium aluminium iron garnets with varying AIsubstitution (0 ,; x ,; 0.9) have been prepared in the pellet form. Sintering studies have been carried out both in ball-milled and coprecipitated powders. It is observed that higher sintering temperature is needed with increasing Al-substitution in YIG to obtain density greater than 98% of the theoretical density. Process conditions to achieve uniform grain size and high density are discussed. Some hot pressed samples have also been prepared to obtain fine microstructure.
