Abstract
An untimely heart-allack took away the life of Amal Paul on November 23, 1990. It also brought an end to nearly 25 years of my friendship with one of the finer scientists the international glass community has known. No doubt, we arc all accustomed to hearing of heart-attacks at an increasingly alarming rate. Heart-auack is one of the leading causes of deaths in adults in the 'civilized world'. We arc told by the medical experts that the rich foods such as ghec (refined butter), coconut, eggs and red meats which many of us relish devouring cause deposits of cholesterol in the arteries causing the wall to harden (atherosclerosis). The deposit buildup, called plaque, leads to narrowing of the arteries. The obstruction to coronary arterial blood flow subsequently leads to heart-attacks.
