| Abstract |
| Epoxy resin graphite composites were prepared by adding a
hardener Hy (951) to epoxy resin Cy (205) in the ratio of 1:10 by
weight while varying the graphite content from 3 to 12 wt %.
Bushings (OD 44 mm, ID 20 mm, length 40 mm) were directly
cast from the liquid slurry of the composite mixture. Wear
characteristics of epoxy-graphite composites were investigated
in detail under dry sliding conditions as a function of composition,
sliding distance, speed and applied load with the help of a
wear test rig designed and fabricated for this purpose. Coefficient
of friction as a function of applied load was measured and
nearly constant values were obtained for different loads employed
in this investigation.
It has been found that graphite has an important impact on
the wear and friction properties of composites. It is seen that after
an incubation period, there is a nearly linear relationship between
wear weight and sliding distance. Wear rate increases with
load but as the amount of graphite in the composite increases, its
value decreases irrespective of the applied load. |
