Abstract
An attempt has been made to study the suitability of a high lime
zirconia-based liner in preventing the build-up and clogging of
submerged entry shrouds in the continuous casting of steel.
Evaluation was made in the laboratory as well as in the field (inplant)
comparing with the performance of two types of sialonbased
and an alumina graphite-based liners. Laboratory results
indicate that the high lime zirconia-based material has almost
the same alumina build-up resistance as that of the sialon-based
material and superior to that of alumina graphite.
The field (in-plant) results show a superior build-up resistance
in the case of the high lime zirconia liner as compared
to the other materials.
