Abstract
Although not classified as raw materials, containers are one of the essential requirements of industries. They are used in a variety of shapes and sizes and are made from wide! y different classes of materials. In some industries, as for example, chemical, pharmaceutical and toilet industries, the container determines to an appreciable extent the reputation of the products. Thanks to the pioneering efforts and self-abnegation of our patriot scientist, late Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray, India has now fairly well established chemical and pharmaceutical industries. The Sw adeshi movement provided a great impetus to the growth and expansion of these industries, which was accelerated by the outbreak of World War II. Chemical and pharmaceutical industrie3 in India, taken together constitute an appreciable portion of the country's total industrial production,
