Abstract
Two problems on refractories are being .currently discussed by two Government Committees with which the author is privileged to be connected viz. (a) Dimensional Standards Sub-Committee of the Refractories Committee of the Indian Standards Institution and (b) the Study Group of the Refractories Panel of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the Government of India. The first is aiming at standardising of dimensions of commonly used refractory bricks and shapes and the second is concerned with setting standards for quality of Pouring refractories used in the steel industry e.g. ladle bricks, nozzles and stoppers, sleeves etc. The problems studied by the two groups are not so unconnected as they may appear to be at first sight.
