Abstract
The influence of temperature and pressure on the density attained by hot pressing of two types of thoria powders-one derived from oxalate and another from tannate has been studied. It was found a rise either in temperature or pressure improved the densification in both types of powders-but much more so in the poorly crystalline powder derived from the tannate. Thoria powders derived from tannate could be hot pressed to a density of over 95% theoretical at 1200°C at 1.5 t.s.i.
