Abstract
High alumina bodies of near theoretical density are necessary for many high temperature applications. Methods of preparation of such bodies (greater than 95% alumina content) at moderate sintering temperatures and the influence of liquid phase on the sintering behaviour of bodies in the magnesia low end of the Mg0-Al20 3-Si02 system have been studied. It was possible to sinter a body of95% alumina, 3.75% silica and 1.25% magnesia to a 98% theoretical density at a temperature of 1500°C.
