Evaluation of some Clays from the Southern Districts of Kerala and their Utilization

Abstract
Physico-chemical studies of four clay samples from different parts of South Kerala namely (1) Mulavana, (2) Kalluvathukkal, (3) Marthandamkonam and (4) Thonnakkal were carried out with a view to establish their nature as well as to ascertain their utility in various industries •. The study includes the examination of the chemical, mineralogical and physical characteristics. The results indicate that the samples which are essentially kaolinite in character are suitable for ceramic, paper, textile and rubber industries.
